DIVINE PROGRESS SCHOOL WINNER OF THE BEYOND SCHOOL NATIONAL ICT CHALLENGE

DIVINE PROGRESS SCHOOL
WINNER OF THE BEYOND SCHOOL NATIONAL ICT CHALLENGE
In 2019, we embarked on a robust ICT training for girls in Divine Progress School and Narayi Community High School, all in Kaduna State, Nigeria. We trained 60 girls in coding using MIT Drag and Drop Coding technology and entered into basic coding skills. Over 90% of these students started building their first games and mobile Apps.

In that same 2019, we enrolled these girls for a national ICT competition and they submitted their proposals as two different teams from the two schools. At the announcement of the results, Divine Progress School was among the Top 10 schools selected for the grand finale. Although our girls from Narayi High School did not make it but still was part of the training process. The final competition was held in Abuja. This challenge was organized by the Mandela Washington Fellowship Nigeria Alumni. It was a three-day challenge with various stages of the competition and our girls emerged again in the top 5.
At the grand finale, our girls from Divine Progress School became the overall winner beating over 155,000 secondary schools across Nigeria. This recognition improved the image of the school and in the next academic year, the school’s admission number increased by 55%.
Our girls won this award with a #350,000 prize which they used to further develop their solution.
